Policy on Medicolegal Reports

Effective from: [23/11/2025]

As Consultant Psychiatrists and clinicians working through Mediconline, our priority is to maintain the highest standards of clinical care, professional integrity, and independence in any expert medicolegal work we undertake. To ensure clarity, fairness, and appropriate professional boundaries, we follow the policy outlined below.

  1. Acceptance of Instructions

We only accept instructions for medicolegal reports from solicitors or authorised legal representatives. We do not accept direct requests for medicolegal assessments or reports from patients or members of the public.

  1. Rationale for This Policy

This approach is in place to ensure:

– Independence and objectivity in all expert opinions

– Clear, structured instructions outlining the legal questions to be addressed

– Appropriate professional boundaries between clinical care and expert witness roles

– Protection of confidentiality through proper legal frameworks

– Reduced risk of misunderstanding regarding the purpose, content, or outcome of the report

Medicolegal reports are independent expert documents and cannot be influenced by personal expectations or preferences. Accepting instructions only from solicitors ensures transparency and avoids potential conflicts of interest.

  1. Role of the Expert

When instructed on a medicolegal matter, our duty is to the court or legal process, not to any individual party. Payment for a report does not guarantee any specific conclusion or outcome. All opinions provided will be impartial, evidence-based, and compliant with relevant professional standards.

  1. Existing Patients

For individuals who are currently receiving clinical treatment from us:

– We do not prepare medicolegal reports in the context of an ongoing therapeutic relationship.

– If a report is required, we advise that your solicitor request records or seek an independent expert psychiatric assessment.

  1. How to Proceed

If you require a medicolegal report, please instruct your solicitor to contact our office directly with:

– A formal letter of instruction

– Relevant records

– The specific legal questions to be addressed

NOTE: Requests that do not follow this process cannot be accepted.

Account Deactivation and Deletion

If you have not used medical services, deleting your account will permanently remove all associated data. If you have received medical care, your account will be deactivated, and data will be retained for the periods specified in the “Data Retention” section. Reactivation requests must be made through our support team.

Changes to This Statement

We may update this Privacy Statement periodically. We encourage users to review it regularly to stay informed. Continued use of our services constitutes agreement to the latest version.
