Our 3-Step Assessment Process?

We understand that taking the first step can be daunting. That’s why we’ve made the process as simple and accessible as possible.

Step 1:
Initial Screening Call

A short telephone screening to understand your concerns and check whether a full ADHD assessment is appropriate for you.  This quick screening helps us understand your needs and determine next steps:

  • Understand your current difficulties
  • Explore your reasons for an ADHD assessment
  • Evaluate the need for a full assessment
  • Explain assessment process & Support

Step 2: Psychometric Testing & Psychologist Assessment

If the initial screening indicates you may require a detailed ADHD assessment, we will::

  • Email you a set of psychometric questionnaires to complete.
  • Book you for a 60–90 minute appointment with a psychologist, who will carry out the DIVA-5 assessment and gather relevant clinical and personal history.

Step 3: Consultant Psychiatrist Assessment & Feedback

You will then meet with a consultant psychiatrist for 45 minutes. During this session, the psychiatrist will:

  • Conduct a clinical assessment
  • Complete the diagnostic process
  • Share results with you directly
  • Provide a clear treatment plan, including ADHD medication in Ireland or alternative approaches.

If appropriate, medication may be prescribed as part of your care plan. All of our psychiatrists are registered medical doctors with the Irish Medical Council, with 10–15 years of experience in diagnosing and managing ADHD in adults.

What does full assessment include?

  • Free screening call with one of the medical team member
  • Self rating psychometric tests
  • A 60 to 90 min assessment with a psychologist to do psychometric tests
  • A 45 min consultation with consultant Psychiatrist to discuss diagnosis and treatment
  • If eligible, a six week prescription of medication.

ADHD Assessment & Prescription Process – FAQ

ADHD private assessment Ireland ?

A private ADHD assessment provides a structured, evidence-based, and confidential pathway to diagnosis and treatment, often completed within weeks, offering clarity and professional guidance for your next steps.

What are the benefits of ADHD assessment?

An ADHD assessment offers much more than a diagnosis; it’s the first step toward clarity, personalized care, and lasting improvement in health, confidence, and quality of life.

How do professionals distinguish between actual ADHD and behavioral problems that arise from excessive social media usage?

Professionals differentiate ADHD from social media–induced attention problems through comprehensive history-taking, standardized diagnostic tools, and clinical judgment. ADHD is a neurological disorder, while attention issues from digital overuse are behavioral and situational, and often improve with lifestyle changes and therapy.

Anyone NOT get diagnosed with ADHD after assessment?

Yes, some people do not get diagnosed with ADHD after assessment. This doesn’t mean the assessment was wasted; rather, it provides clarity and direction. A proper evaluation distinguishes ADHD from other causes of inattention, ensuring that any treatment or support is accurate, safe, and effective.

Is social media increasing ADHD?

Social media doesn’t cause ADHD, but heavy use can intensify attention difficulties and make ADHD symptoms more visible. Maintaining healthy screen habits helps protect focus, mood, and mental well-being, whether or not you have ADHD.

Is it possible to not know you have ADHD?

Yes, it’s entirely possible to have ADHD and not know it. Many adults go undiagnosed because their symptoms were overlooked, misinterpreted, or compensated for over time. Getting assessed can lead to better understanding, improved focus, and tailored treatment that makes daily life much easier.

What happens if I meet the criteria for ADHD during my assessment?

If you meet the criteria for ADHD, you will be issued a GP Cardiovascular Examination Form after your consultation. You must book an appointment with your GP or a walk-in clinic to complete this mandatory physical health check before any medication can be prescribed.

How do I return the completed GP Cardiovascular Examination Form?

Once your GP has completed the form, please email it to info@mediconline.ie.

How long does it take to receive my prescription after sending the form?

When we receive your completed form, our consultant will review it.
If everything is normal, your prescription will be issued directly to your nominated pharmacy within 2 days.

How long is the initial prescription valid for?

The initial prescription is usually for 6 weeks.
In some cases, the consultant may issue a 4-week prescription if a shorter titration period is needed to monitor response, side effects, or risk.

How do I book my follow-up appointment?

You will need to email us to request a follow-up appointment after your initial 4- or 6-week titration period.
The follow-up is a 30-minute review, costing €120, during which the consultant will assess:
• your response to medication
• any side effects
• whether longer-term treatment or adjustments are needed.

When will I receive my diagnostic report?

Your diagnostic report will be available within one week of your assessment—often within just a few days.
